International Women's day, 2018

​

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women's rights. International Women's Day is not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. This year the theme for celebrating women’s day was ‘Press For Progress’. Collective action and shared responsibility for driving gender parity is what makes International Women's Day successful

Electrical Engineering Society (EES) also took the initiative to celebrate this day in the department on 08.03.2018.

Objective of the program: The objective of the program was to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Outcome of the program:

Students will be able to:

  • To extend the significance and progress the level of women education all over the country.

  • The marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. 

  • Understand the importance of gender parity in the society.

   

Summary of the program:

 

  • The program started with the welcome speech Prof. J. B. Basu, HOD, Department of Electrical Engineering, SIT, who emphasized the importance of women empowerment at work and in the society and motivated EES members to celebrate this event with utmost zeal and enthusiasm every year.

  • He continued his speech by thanking three most important women in his life i.e. his mother, his wife and his sister who continually motivated and encouraged him to be what he is today.

  • Further, Prof. M.R.Chakraborty, enlightened every one by urging every girl to realize their strengths and abilities and step out in order to contribute to the society and the world consequently.

  • The program continued with a skit, performed by the students of 2nd year who showed that a knowledgeable woman has the skills, information, talent, and self-confidence that she requires to be a superior mother, employee, as well as citizen of any country.

  • Priyanka Das of 2nd year and Rojika Darnal of 3rd year presented a wonderful speech and asked every individual to help forge gender parity on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.

  • An open quiz competition was conducted by the student of 3rd year where various facts were discussed about women.

  • A documentary movie was shown to the students on the Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai’s who battled for equal rights for girls. Her speech to the United Nation mentioned about the girls education.

  • Students were motivated and amazed to know so many unknown facts and stories about her struggle as well as her achievements.

  • Prof. J. B. Basu, HOD, Department of Electrical Engineering, SIT, distributed a small gift to all the female students present in the seminar hall for appreciating their potential and motivating them to become a successful person in every sphere of their life.

  • The program ended with vote of thanks by Prof. S. Roy, Faculty Advisor, EES, and group photographs were taken by the students.
