World Water Day, 2018 

​

Water is an essential building block of life. It is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect

health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development.

Environmental damage, together with climate change, is driving the water-related crises we see

around the world. When we neglect our ecosystems, we make it harder to provide everyone with

the water we need to survive and thrive

Electrical Engineering Society (EES) took the very noble initiative to make people aware   the

importance of fresh water and advocating for the sustainable management of fresh water resources.

Objective of the program: The objective of the program was to generate mass awareness and taking the

time to appreciate the role that water plays in our day-to-day life.

Students will be able to:

 

  • Recognize the need and importance of conservation of water.

  • Understand the impact of the professional engineering in society and environmental contexts.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

​

Summary of the program:

  • At the beginning of the program, an introductory and welcome speech was delivered by Prof. J. B. Basu, HOD, Department of Electrical Engineering, SIT, Siliguri.

  • A Poster Competition on ‘Nature for Water’ was organized for 2nd year and 3rd year students.

  • Prof. Samrat Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Civil Dept., Prof. Rajib Chettri, Assistant Professor, DESH Dept. and Prof S. Roy, Assistant Professor, EE Dept. made their judgement on poster competition along with voting conducted among the students.

  • Subhajit Barman of Edison House secured 1st in poster competition whereas Snigdha Chakraborty and Aishika Nandy of 3rd year secured 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

  • An open quiz competition on the various facts about water was organized by the 3rd year students among 1st,2nd as well as 3rd year students.

  • Susmita Guha Sarkar gave a small speech on depiction of water scarcity scenario in India.

  • It was followed by innovative idea presentation on 'How we can use nature to overcome the water challenges in 21st century'.

  • Basudeb Mohanta, Abhishek Dey and Mrinal Chanda of 2nd year presented their innovative ideas on how to conserve water for future generation.

  • The winners of poster competition were awarded with prizes as well as certificates.

  • The program ended with vote of thanks by Prof. S. Roy, Faculty advisor, EES, and group photographs were taken by the students.
